Jane Dyer Sullivan Sain

November 8, 1931 — August 29, 2021

Jane Dyer Sullivan Sain passed away Sunday, August 29 at the age of 89. Born on November 8, 1931 in Sweetwater, Tennessee, Jane attended the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, then known as UC, where she pledged Chi Omega sorority and graduated with a degree in Biology. In 1953, Jane married Samuel “Sammy” Julian Sullivan, Jr. and moved to Cleveland, Tennessee. There, she became a school teacher and was beloved by students at the Kindergarten Center, the first kindergarten in the city school system, as well as Blythe Avenue, Arnold, and E.L. Ross. An active member of Broad Street United Methodist Church, Jane found fellowship and friendship in the Wesley Sunday School Class, Lunch Bunch, and the Chancel Choir. She also participated in Music Club and volunteered at Bradley Memorial, now Tennova Hospital.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Emma Miles and Frank H. Dyer; her brother, Frank H. Dyer, Jr.; her first husband, Sammy Sullivan; and her second husband, Robert “Bob” Sain.

She is survived by her children with Sammy: Emma Jane Haile (John), Martha Foster (Lynn), and Julian Sullivan (Hilda), as well as Bob’s children, SueEllen Nolick (Larry), Lynn Weathers (Larry), and Tom Sain (Deb). Additional survivors include her treasured grandchildren:  Meredith Foster Cox (Jonathan), Lydia Foster Sellers (Brad), Laura Haile Justiss (Scott), Ella Marie Sullivan, Taylor Foster (Sarah), Samuel Julian Sullivan IV, and Charlsey Sullivan, as well as five great-grandchildren she adored.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Garden Plaza, Amedisys Hospice, and Helping Hands for providing comfort and care.

Due to the pandemic, Jane will be laid to rest at a private family burial, with a funeral service to be scheduled at a later date when all can gather safely to celebrate her life, likely Spring 2022.

Memorial contributions may be made in Jane’s name to Broad Street United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.
